Crazy Easy To Make 4th Of July Luminaries
Remember the Crazy Easy To Make 4th Of July Luminaries from last year? Well, they inspired at least one of my guests to create some of her own! She took a few of my leftover 4th of July napkins to make some for herself.
These are so simple and inexpensive! These are made from mayo jars, pickle jars, relish jars, and whatever jars you have on hand. We normally put these in the recycle bin, but I have been saving them for this project.
Talk about simple! Mod Podge and napkins or tissue paper are all it takes to make these! You need one thin layer of tissue or napkin. The napkins can be peeled apart, leaving one very thin layer. At this point, I decided how I wanted the design to go on the jar, cut out elements and arranged them or covered the whole side of the jar with the napkin.
Once you have decided on your design, brush Mod Podge on the jar and place your pieces of napkin or tissue on top of the glue. Once you have them where you want them, gently brush a coat of Mod Podge on top of the napkin.
Allow the Mod Podge to dry and top with another coat. That is it! They are ready for use.
And this is how they look at night when battery powered tea lights are inside. (You can find those at the dollar stores or Hobby Lobby.) Candle tea lights could be used, too. Glow sticks, which can be cut open and poured into the jars can be used, but I am not sure how long those would last. I wonder how those little glow bracelets would work placed in the bottom of the jars. I may have to try that.
For around ten bucks, you can find a set of the battery operated 16 Pieces Flameless LED Tea Light Set with batteries at Hobby Lobby and there are 16 extra batteries. Use one of the 40% off coupons, which you can almost always find on their website or with their app, and they are really cheap!
I love the little LED tea lights, they are pretty convincing. Last year after the party, one of the guys went outside to retrieve the luminaries and tried to blow out the battery operated candles! He was a little embarrassed and even he had to laugh!

After the Fourth of July last year, I picked up some more patriotic napkins on clearance to make some more of these. Jute ties were added to the Halloween version and I really liked the look. So I've added some festive red ties to the newest Fourth of July versions and some jute ties to the ones from last year.
