About me

I believe there is value in just being a woman, a stay at home mom, and being a woman who loves decorating, gardening, sewing, baking, and cooking.

My father died when I was thirteen and my mother worked.  After school, before she returned home, I prepared dinners.  I loved finding and trying new recipes.

After graduating, I attended The Art Institute of Florida, worked in Graphic Arts for awhile, and ultimately did one tour of duty in the Navy.  On a naval base in Alaska, I found the love of my life.  We wed and have four grown children and three grandchildren.

Dave was gone a lot with his job on the railroad.  Through the years, in order to be at home with the kids, and have a little extra money, I have had a Mary Kay cosmetics business and a craft business.  I worked part-time at an upscale clothing store and eventually became the assistant manager.  When the scheduling took me away from my youngest and home too much, I quit.

Shortly after, the local bank, five minutes from home, offered me a job working from nine or ten in the morning until two in the afternoon.  I put my youngest on the bus, finished getting ready, and left for work.  I was home to greet him, often with homemade brownies or cookies, when he stepped off of the bus!  That was a perfect 'Mom' job!  More businesses should offer that!  After twelve years, and gradually working my way up to full time and 'Backup Head Teller', I retired.

This website is to share the things I've learned along the way, ideas, tips, techniques, recipes and the things I joyfully continue to learn each day.  Being one who thinks 'Outside of the Box', you never know what I'll create, but if I can, you can, too!

If you are someone who values just being a woman, a mom, a grandma, a chauffeur, a therapist, a baker, a chef, doctor, nurse, teacher, cheerleader, decorator, housekeeper, gardener, and all of the other things a mom has to be, you will be inspired by and enjoy 'My Humble Home and Garden.'  Welcome to my site.
